CAVE exploration at Whirlpool cave

We will be taking kids ages 6 and up with or without parents. Younger than 6, guardians must also join.

We will be exploring Austin's very own whirlpool cave. This cave is great for beginners and novice cavers alike and is only accessible through private tours.  We will be guided by professional cavers from the Underground Texas GROTTO that volunteer their time because they love what they do. Learning about caves and how this particular cave feeds into the Edwards Aquifer and Barton Springs. You will get a hands on education with this adventure.

About whirlpool cave:

Whirlpool Cave Preserve is owned by the Texas Cave Management Association. Formed in limestone over tens of thousands of years it is home to many interesting insects and cave species. Whirlpool is the perfect introduction to caving. You will mostly crawl on your hands and knees and army crawl in some places. You'll get dirty and have a great time under Austin!

This is also the cave that is a prliminary cave experience you must have in order to go to more advanced caves that we will be scheduling very soon.

What to Bring:

Bring knee pads (soccer), head lamp, and reusable water bottle. If you do not have these items please let me know and we will provide. We are limited on supplies so if you have, please bring. Helmets will be provided, but if you have a bike helmet, please bring yours. Expect to get dirty, so wear your getting dirty adventure clothes! Also bring extra clothes to change into after our caving in order NOT to spread any organisms that may latch onto your clothing to other places. Put them in a bag and wash them as soon as you get home.

What you will Learn:

See what kind of creatures live in the dark, see where our water flows when it rains, and how not to be afraid of caves.

meet at the trail head parking lot under Mopac with your emailed ticket

This is such a fun and awesome experience!

SNACKS will be provided at the end!
